Wareham Plus is in the centre of Wareham town, close to local shops and other town centre amenities. The building is on the ground floor and has large, spacious rooms where clients can move around freely and safely, with a small garden area.
Facilities, activities and services offered
The service specialises in providing support for clients with dementia, enabling them to be as independent as possible. It provides person-centred care and support, promoting inclusion and helping to maintain individual skills through activities and socialisation.
A wide range of activities are offered, aiming to keep clients physically active as well as supporting the memory. Clients are encouraged to choose what activities they would like to do and they are then planned accordingly. Activities include: gentle chair based exercise; bowls; golf; skittles; archery; snooker and darts; arts and crafts; table top games such as dominoes; memory box; reminiscence; work and number games such as scrabble; quizzes and Countdown. There is monthly entertainment and clients are supported to go into the town for shopping or other activities.
The service is equipped with a Parker bath and seated shower, with hoists, stand aid equipment and aids to support safe moving and assisting. A supported bathing or shower service is offered at an agreed charge, as is toenail cutting.
Regular fundraising events are held to raise money towards charities such as the Alzheimer’s Society or for the client’s amenity fund.
Support to carers
Signposting, advice and guidance is provided, and the service offers daily respite attendance to support carers. Carers information sessions and open days are held throughout the year.
