Stour Connect is a 10-minute walk from the centre of Sturminster Newton, in a large single storey purpose-built building. It has a terraced garden with wheel chair access and raised flower beds.
Facilities, activities and services offered
The service has a large day room with kitchen facilities; a sports hall with sporting equipment; a sensory room; a ‘t-bar café’ with an outside courtyard and a medical room with a hospital bed as well as many other rooms for activities and a large dining room space. There is also a 2-bedded flat for independent living skills development.
The service offers engaging and supportive activities designed around a client’s needs and goals. These activities include: lunch cookery; baking and cake making; music appreciation in various forms; skittles; sensory activities and games including the use of the sensory room; discussion groups; quizzes and word games. Cricket; drama; tennis and keep fit dance routines are also offered (with professional tuition). Clients are supported to attend a local gym after an induction session.
Members of the community are invited to eat in the café if bookings are made in advance, and a community cafe run by Ivers Residential Home is held on Fridays.
Music events, including discos, are held regularly, to which the local community are invited. The Stour Connect Social Club is held on the second Thursday of the month.
There are three changing rooms and a large number of toilets/bathrooms to meet all needs.
Support to carers
A carers’ coffee morning is held every second Wednesday. Signposting, advice and guidance is provided to carers. The service offers daily respite attendance to support carers
Stour Connect is open 9.30 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. It is closed at weekends and bank holidays.
There is an active ‘Friends of Stour Connect’ Group. Many community clubs and activities are held at the Centre.
All Stour Connect’s rooms and facilities are available for hire. Charges and further information are available on request.
