Ridgeway Plus is in a large purpose-built building on one level, approximately one mile from Weymouth town centre and the beach. It is set amidst extensive grounds in a peaceful residential location.
Facilities, activities and services offered
The service offers a variety of support for people with profound disabilities to support inclusion, mobility, health and social needs. Activities include hydrotherapy; aquafit; wheelchair dancing; music and entertainment; cooking; sensory activities; drama; and a range of art and crafts. Many events are held on site for clients, including theme days; Strictly Ridgeway dancing; Ready Steady Cook; sports days; drama performances; discos and the annual Ridgestock Festival. Virtual Reality (VR) experiences are also offered.
Outings are arranged regularly to places of interest and attractions in the local area, for example Bovington Tank Museum; Monkey World; Abbotsbury Swannery; Dorset Learning Disability Cricket Festival; ice skating; boating and sailing. Fully supported residential farm visits are arranged to Magdalen Farm.
There is a large sports hall with kitchenette; a multi-sensory room and three large specialist bathrooms with overhead hoists and changing beds.
Support to carers
There is an active Friends of Ridgeway parents and carers support group. Carers days and coffee mornings are held regularly. Staff give support, advice and signposting information to carers, and the service offers daily respite attendance to support them.
Ridgeway Plus is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. It is closed at weekends and on bank holidays.
The sports hall with kitchenette and the multi-sensory room is available to hire, as are the specialist bathrooms. Charges and further information are available on request.
