Facilities, activities and services offered
Moordown Plus is a specialist service, supporting people with medium to high level dementia, helping them to live well with dementia in a safe, secure, stimulating and supportive environment.
Support is tailored to our clients’ needs and our fully trained staff support with personal care; eating and drinking; and a variety of stimulating activities and orientation aids.
Our building features a number of zones with artefacts and items giving visual stimulation to provoke positive memories for our clients. These include: a music zone (displaying record covers), armed forces area (with badges etc), people around the world zone, vehicles (such as displaying a make of car badge), and sailing (life rings).
We offer a range of activities for all abilities, including art; craft; knitting; pottery; flower arranging; photography; games such as bowls; skittles; musical bingo and table top games; singing; dancing; chair exercises; reminiscing and orientation; gardening; cookery and DIY skills.
Outings are arranged regularly to places of interest in the local area, for example to the Branksome beach community room; boat trips on the Dolphin and Knoticat; the Pelhams tea dance; Pavilion dancing for dementia; the Prama Care Group at Pelhams; Bournemouth Aircraft Museum and many more. Shopping and lunch/refreshment trips are also arranged.
We have specialist changing and hoisting facilities and a walk in shower. Fully supported bathing services are offered for an agreed charge, and our showering facilities can also be purchased privately: please contact us for current rates.
A registered chiropodist visits every 6 weeks and there is a hair salon on site, and these services are available to be booked at an additional charge.
The service holds events which are open to the local community, such as a monthly dementia friendly film club; tea dances and cream teas; and summer and Christmas fayres.
Support to carers
A monthly carers’ and working group is held on the second Monday of each month. Carers are encouraged to call in or phone to discuss their situations with our staff at any time and we give support, advice and signposting information. The service offers daily respite attendance to support carers.
Moordown Plus is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday. It is closed at weekends and on bank holidays.
