Dorchester Connect is in a prime location in the centre of Dorchester, with easy access to the town. It is in a spacious, light and airy building on the ground floor, with an accessible garden.
Facilities, activities and services offered
The service offers activities and support access to the local community to sustain independent living. Examples of the activities offered are chair exercise; tai chi; quizzes; bingo; arts and crafts; sewing; cookery; singing; music and board games; gardening and sensory activities. Clients are supported to attend swimming and hydrotherapy sessions nearby and to go shopping in the town if they wish. There are regular music events with outside entertainers and ‘pamper’ sessions are also offered. There is a men’s group and a client committee who meet monthly to plan trips to attractions, such as the Swanage Railway and Poole Park. The service supports a local allotment. Fetes are held several times a year to raise money for the amenity fund.
A lunch club has recently been launched, on a Wednesday from 12.15 to 2pm. Members of the community are welcome to attend and bookings are taken in advance.
There is a bathroom equipped with a hoist, and a changing bed. Prices for bathing services with specialist support are available on request.
Support to carers
The service holds a carers’ group on the last Friday of the month. It also offers informal signposting and advice on request. The service offers daily respite attendance to support carers.
Dorchester Connect is open from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday. It is closed at weekends and bank holidays.
