Carers Week:  11 – 17 June 2018.

Who cares for our carers?

Do you provide unpaid care for a disabled, ill or older family member or friend?

As carers week approaches, we want to invite you, your family and friends to join our events across Dorset. We want to celebrate and recognise the vital contributions made by the staggering 6.5 million carers across the UK and hope you will come along and join us.

Caring can be a rewarding experience but without the right support many carers find themselves facing financial hardship, emotional stress, ill-health, relationship breakdowns and isolation. Carers provide day to day support, often to someone with complex needs and illnesses, like dementia. Most carers have had minimal time to prepare themselves for the challenges that lie ahead and fulfil their role with little or no training.

Tricuro want to highlight the challenges carers face and celebrate the contributions people make to their families and communities, whilst in turn, engaging the public to foster a deeper understanding about what is involved when taking on the responsibilities of caring for a loved one.

Anja Ford, one of our Service Directors, says: In our services we come into regular contact with people who have taken on caring responsibilities, witnessing how love and commitment conquers the daily challenges encountered but also noting the impact these challenges have on peoples lives. We pride ourselves on our ability to extend the support we offer to carers, offering advice and guidance, a break or more often than not just a listening ear. In turn we see how the “lived experience” develops caring experts, experts that can in turn support others who may be at the beginning of their journey. We recognise and value the contribution carers make and are delighted to be able to participate in National Carers Week.

So, come along and share your experiences with other carers and local support groups and meet the staff in our services, whilst making new friends and creating a larger support network within your local community.
